Philosophy [PHL courses]

The following timetable information is the most current information available since the publication of the 2011-2012 Registration Handbook. Courses and meeting sections added will be listed below. Courses and meeting sections cancelled will be indicated as such.

For PHL100Y1: Tutorials for the two sections of PHL100Y1 are not interchangeable. Students taking PHL100Y1 should ensure that they sign up for the tutorials that correspond to the lecture section of the course in which they are enrolled. PHL100Y1 students enrolled in section L0101 (TR12) should only enrol in one of the tutorials between T0101-T1701 and students enrolled in section L0201 (MW12) should only enrol in one of the tutorials between T1801-T2101.

For PHL490Y1, 495H1, 496H1, 497H1 498H1 and 499H1, Individual Studies, E indicator course: students should discuss the research project with a faculty member well in advance of the term in which the project is to take place. Students must submit a completed Individual Studies application, signed by the faculty member supervising the project and return it to the Undergraduate Administrator one week in advance of the relevant dead-line for registration in F, S, or Y courses.

Prerequisites: Students without the prerequisites as listed in the Faculty of Arts and Science Calendar may be removed at any time they are discovered. Students who complete a prerequisite at another institution should contact the course instructor with a copy of their academic record or other relevant information before enrolling in the course. Failure to do so may result in removal from the course.

Tutorials: Students may enrol in tutorial sections on SWS. Please note that in some courses with tutorials, there is a third lecture hour that overlaps with one of the tutorial hours. This is to allow instructors to hold extra lectures in place of tutorials as required; tutorials and lectures will not be held simultaneously.

IMPORTANT: because of significant enrolment pressure on 4th year seminars, during the priority period in St. George Campus round of enrolment, students who enrol in more than the required number for program completion (Specialists - two; Majors and Joint Specialists - one) MAY BE REMOVED, without consultation, from the additional 400-level courses. Students in 400-level courses must attend the first class, or contact the instructor to explain their absence. Failure to do so may result in removal from the course.

For 'E' indicator courses: students can download ballots or Independent Study forms off the Philosophy Department website. All forms must be received at Jackman Humanities Building, 170 St. George Street, Room 403, no later than 5:00 p.m., Friday September 2, 2011.
